This is one of my favorite holidays. You get a long weekend in a month of the year that isn’t blazing hot or ridiculously cold, you don’t have to buy presents, as it’s not a corporate holiday, and it actually honors people who offered a sacrifice for the greater good.

Plus, there is good beer. Seriously, good beer is available everywhere. It is one thing I do spend more on. You just can’t put a price on the amount of joy that the micro brewers put in each bottle. Some suggestions for a great spring weekend:

• Allagash White - Quite possibly the best wheat beer on the planet.
• Sam Adams Summer Ale - Yes, it’s almost mass produced, but they still haven’t let success kill their beer.
• Dogfish Head Black and Blue - It’s another wheat, but it contains a hint of black and blue berries.
• Flying Dog Kergeros Tripel - Tasty Belgian-style Tripel, and it has an interesting label.
• Le Pelican - If you live in Bend, OR you are lucky.
• And if you’re looking for something heavier try Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout from North Coast Brewery. Best stout on the planet.
